French Translation Services in Ireland

French translation services in Ireland for French to English and English to French documents

Last updated: 9 September 2026

If you need French translation services in Ireland, the correct service depends on more than whether the document is being translated from French to English or English to French. The document type, issuing country, destination country and receiving organisation can all affect whether you need an ordinary professional translation, a certified French translation for use in Ireland, or a translation prepared for a specific French procedure.

Need a French translation now? Send a clear scan, photo or PDF and tell us where the document will be used. Get a French Translation Quote or message TTC on WhatsApp. Same-day or 24-hour delivery may be available for suitable documents after review.

TTC Translation Services provides French to English and English to French translation for official, legal, academic, medical, financial, business, technical and personal documents. We also handle specialist legal translation from English to French and French to English. An important distinction is that an Irish certified translation is not automatically the same as a French sworn translation. Ireland and France use different systems, so the destination country, document type and receiving authority matter.

Why Choose TTC for French Translation Services in Ireland?

Choosing a French translation company is about more than translating words accurately. For official, legal, academic, medical, financial, technical and business documents, customers may also need suitable translator expertise, clear certification, careful terminology, confidential handling, a secure online process, reliable turnaround and responsive customer service.

TTC is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 17100 and has a Dublin city-centre office. We provide French to English and English to French translation and can review the document’s intended use, receiving authority and any written instructions before the service is confirmed.

Qualified French Translators and Specialist Terminology

TTC assigns suitably qualified linguists according to the language pair, subject matter and intended use of the document. Depending on the project, this can involve native-language expertise and translators familiar with legal, medical, academic, financial or technical terminology. Not every French project requires the same translator status: a standard business translation, an Irish certified translation and a French sworn translation can have different requirements. Where a particular qualification, certification or sworn-translator status matters, the requirement should be confirmed before the order starts.

Quality, Confidentiality, Privacy and Secure Document Handling

Customer documents can contain personal, legal, medical, financial or commercially sensitive information. TTC handles documents confidentially and provides online submission routes so customers can send a clear scan, photograph or PDF without visiting the office simply to obtain a quote. Translation and quality checks are completed according to the agreed service, with the document purpose and receiving organisation considered before delivery. For customers who prefer a fully remote journey, see TTC’s online certified translation service in Ireland.

Customer Reviews and Reputation

When comparing a French translation agency or French translator, customer reviews, responsiveness, clear pricing and the ability to explain certification requirements can be useful trust signals. Customers can check TTC’s current Google Reviews and published customer testimonials before ordering, alongside the service details and quote. Reviews are helpful when choosing a provider, but the receiving authority’s written requirements should always determine the translation format.

French to English Translation Services in Ireland

French to English translation is frequently required by individuals, companies, students and professionals who need French-language documents understood or submitted in Ireland. The correct service depends on the purpose of the document and the organisation receiving it.

Common French to English translation projects include birth and marriage certificates, academic records, immigration documents, employment documents, contracts, court papers, business documents, medical records, financial documents and other personal or professional material.

Certified French to English Translation for Official Use

For official use in Ireland, a certified French to English translation may be required where the receiving organisation cannot work from the original French document.

Irish Immigration Service Delivery explains that a translator or translation company with an established professional reputation may qualify to produce certified translations. Its guidance also sets out the certification statement and supporting details expected: the certification should be signed and dated and include the certifier’s name, occupation, address and telephone number.

French documents that may require certified or professional translation include:

  • birth certificates (acte de naissance)
  • marriage certificates (acte de mariage)
  • death certificates
  • divorce documents
  • police or criminal-record documents
  • immigration document translation
  • academic document translation, transcripts and marksheets
  • diplomas and degree certificates
  • employment records and references
  • legal document translation and court papers
  • contracts and powers of attorney
  • company and commercial documents
  • medical document translation
  • financial and banking documents

If an Irish immigration authority, university, solicitor, court, employer, bank or other receiving organisation has provided written instructions, send them with the document. They can affect the required certification statement, translator status, format or delivery method.

For general information about Irish certification, see TTC’s certified translation services in Ireland.

Do French Public Documents Always Need Translation in Ireland?

No. France and Ireland are EU Member States, and certain public documents fall within Regulation (EU) 2016/1191.

The regulation simplifies the circulation of qualifying public documents between EU countries, removes the apostille requirement for documents within its scope and provides optional Multilingual Standard Forms (MSFs) that can be attached as translation aids. The European e-Justice Portal explains the scope and the available forms.

Irish Immigration guidance also states that certain EEA or Swiss state-issued documents, including qualifying birth, marriage, death and divorce certificates, do not require translation where the appropriate multilingual standard form is provided.

A separate translation may still be needed when:

  • the document is outside the Regulation’s scope
  • no suitable multilingual standard form is available
  • the receiving organisation requires an English translation
  • the receiving organisation is a private organisation not bound by the Regulation
  • the information in the multilingual form is insufficient for the receiving authority’s purpose

The European e-Justice Portal’s multilingual standard forms FAQ confirms that private organisations such as companies and banks are not bound in the same way as public authorities and may still request a translation.

Certified Translation in Ireland vs French Sworn Translation

An Irish certified translation and a French sworn translation should not automatically be treated as the same product.

In Ireland, the translation format is normally determined by the requirements of the organisation receiving the document. France uses a judicial-expert system. Service-Public.fr describes a traducteur agréé as a judicial expert included on lists established by the French Courts of Appeal and Court of Cassation.

You may also encounter the terms:

  • traducteur assermenté
  • traduction assermentée
  • certified translator
  • sworn translator
  • sworn translation

These terms are used differently across jurisdictions and should not simply be treated as interchangeable with an Irish certified translation.

Service-Public also explains that certain EU public documents can be presented with a multilingual standard form instead of a separate translation. If a French authority still requires a translation in that context, its guidance states that the translation must be completed by a traducteur agréé.

France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs separately explains that translations connected with certain legalisation procedures may require a translator certified by a French Court of Appeal or another appropriately authorised translator. See the official French guidance on sworn translations.

A practical rule is:

  • Document being used in Ireland: follow the Irish receiving organisation’s requirements.
  • Document being used in France: confirm whether the French authority requires an ordinary professional translation, a traduction assermentée, a traducteur agréé, notarisation, legalisation or another specific formality.

If you send TTC the destination country, receiving organisation and any written instructions, we can review the requested service before work begins.

French Legal Translation: English to French and French to English

Legal translation is an important part of professional French translation services. TTC handles legal translation from English to French and French to English for documents such as contracts and agreements, powers of attorney, declarations and affidavits, court documents and judgments, legal correspondence, company and corporate records, certificates, solicitor documentation, property and tenancy documents and supporting documents for formal applications.

Legal terminology should be translated according to context and jurisdiction rather than word-for-word in isolation. For legal translation from English to French, it is particularly important to know whether the document is being translated for understanding or commercial use, or whether it will form part of a formal French administrative or judicial procedure. The latter may carry additional translator, certification, notarisation, apostille or legalisation requirements.

French legal documents being submitted in Ireland may likewise require a certified English translation depending on the receiving organisation. For broader written-content projects, see TTC’s professional translation services.

French Academic and Professional Document Translation

French to English translation is frequently required for education, employment and professional-recognition purposes. Documents can include diplomas, degree certificates, academic transcripts, marksheets, school or university records, professional certificates, training records, employment documentation, professional references and supporting application material.

Translation makes the content of a qualification or record understandable to the receiving organisation. It does not itself determine recognition, equivalency, admission or professional registration. NARIC Ireland, hosted by QQI, provides comparability information for foreign qualifications, while the final recognition decision remains with the relevant employer, competent authority, education provider or professional body.

Where a university, employer, QQI/NARIC Ireland or professional organisation publishes its own document requirements, those requirements should be checked before the final translation format is confirmed.

English to French Translation Services

TTC also provides English to French translation for personal, commercial, academic and administrative documents.

If the document is going to France, tell us where it will be submitted and what it will be used for. An ordinary professional translation for a business or private organisation can have different requirements from a document being filed as part of a formal French administrative, legal or judicial procedure.

This is why descriptions such as “official French translation” can be misleading without more context. The receiving organisation’s written instructions should take priority whenever they are available.

English to French projects can include contracts, company documents, reports, HR material, policies, product information, presentations, websites, marketing content, technical documents, software content and customer communications.

Business and Professional French Translation

Companies use French translation services when working with customers, suppliers, employees and partners in France and other French-speaking markets.

Projects can include contracts and commercial agreements, company and corporate documents, reports, HR documentation and policies, product information, presentations and tenders, websites and ecommerce content, marketing material, technical documentation, financial content and customer communications.

For recurring business translation, terminology consistency, formatting, audience and context are as important as linguistic accuracy. If the project involves a website, software, campaign or customer-facing content rather than an official document, a professional translation or localisation workflow may be more appropriate than a certified translation.

Other French Language Services

Written document translation is only one part of multilingual communication. If your French project includes spoken, audio, video, website or software content, TTC can also provide related language services separately from the document-translation service.

  • French interpretation: on-site or remote interpreting for meetings, appointments, events and other spoken communication. See TTC’s interpretation services.
  • French transcription: audio file transcription and transcription of video recordings such as interviews, meetings, lectures and focus groups. See TTC’s transcription services.
  • French localisation and software translation: adaptation of websites, software, marketing content and other customer-facing material for French-speaking audiences. See TTC’s localisation services.
  • Video subtitling: TTC’s wider language-services offering also includes multilingual video subtitling for suitable projects.

For multilingual projects, TTC supports more than 200 languages, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. See the full language list for wider coverage.

How the French Translation Process Works

1. Send Your Document

Send a clear scan, photograph or PDF through the quote form, WhatsApp or another approved TTC contact route.

2. Confirm the Language Direction and Destination

Tell us whether you need French to English or English to French translation, where the document was issued and where it will be used.

3. Tell Us the Intended Use

Identify the receiving organisation, deadline and any written instructions you have received. This is especially important for documents moving between Ireland and France because the certification systems differ.

4. Receive a Free Personalised Quote

Requesting a quote is free. TTC reviews the document, language pair, intended use, formatting, specialist terminology and requested turnaround before confirming the service, price and estimated delivery time. The quote gives you the price to approve before translation work begins. Once approved, payment can be confirmed through TTC’s secure online payment process.

5. Translation and Quality Checks

The document is translated and checked according to the agreed service. Where specialist legal, medical, financial, academic or technical terminology is involved, the project should be assigned and reviewed with that subject matter in mind.

6. Delivery

The completed translation is supplied in the agreed format. If the receiving organisation requires notarisation, legalisation, an apostille or another separate formality, this should be identified before completion whenever possible.

How Much Does French Translation Cost?

There is no single price that applies to every French translation. TTC’s current certified-translation pricing starts from €14.99 per standard page for suitable standard documents, while the final French translation price depends on the actual file and service required.

Cost can depend on:

  • number of pages or words
  • French to English or English to French
  • document type and complexity
  • specialist legal, medical, financial or technical terminology
  • formatting
  • certification requirements
  • additional notarisation or legalisation requirements
  • urgency and requested delivery date

You can review TTC’s current translation pricing for general starting-price information. For the most accurate price, send the complete document for a free personalised French translation quote so the actual content and requirements can be reviewed.

How Long Does French Translation Take?

Turnaround depends on document length, complexity, language direction, formatting and certification requirements.

Same-day or 24-hour translation may be available for suitable documents, subject to review and translator availability. Larger legal, technical, medical, financial or highly formatted projects may require additional time.

If you have a fixed delivery date, include it with your enquiry so TTC can confirm whether the requested turnaround is feasible before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions About French Translation Services

Do I need a certified French translation for Irish immigration?

It depends on the application and document. If the Irish receiving authority requires a translation into English or Irish, follow the current instructions for that application. Irish Immigration publishes guidance on certified translations and the information that should accompany the certification. Send TTC any written requirements you have received.

Is a French sworn translation the same as an Irish certified translation?

No. France uses a judicial-expert system for court-recognised translators, while Irish organisations apply their own certification requirements. The correct format depends on the country, procedure and organisation receiving the document.

What is a traducteur assermenté or traducteur agréé?

In common usage, traducteur assermenté is often used for a court-recognised translator in France. Service-Public uses the term traducteur agréé and describes this person as a judicial expert included on French court lists.

Can a French birth or marriage certificate be used in Ireland without translation?

Sometimes. Certain EU public documents can be accompanied by an appropriate multilingual standard form, which can avoid a separate translation where the EU Public Documents Regulation applies and the form contains enough information for the receiving authority. The exact document and recipient still matter.

Does a French document need an apostille for use in Ireland?

Not automatically. For public documents within the scope of the EU Public Documents Regulation, the apostille requirement between EU Member States is abolished. Documents outside that scope or other procedures can have different requirements, so check the receiving organisation’s instructions.

Can TTC translate legal documents from English to French?

Yes. TTC can translate contracts, powers of attorney, declarations, corporate records, court documents and other legal material from English to French. If the translation will be used in a formal French procedure, provide the receiving authority’s requirements so the appropriate service can be identified before work starts.

Can TTC translate French documents into English?

Yes. TTC provides French to English translation for official, legal, academic, employment, business, medical, financial and personal documents. Where the translation is for formal use in Ireland, tell us which organisation will receive it so the certification requirements can be reviewed.

Are my documents handled confidentially?

TTC treats customer documents confidentially and provides online routes for submitting scans, photographs and PDFs. If your file contains sensitive legal, medical, financial or personal information, mention any special handling requirements when requesting the quote.

How are French translators selected?

The appropriate linguist depends on the language direction, subject matter and intended use. TTC can use qualified linguists, native-language expertise where appropriate and specialist knowledge for legal, medical, financial, academic or technical translation. Where a specific certified or sworn-translator status is required, that requirement should be confirmed before the service is accepted.

Does TTC offer French interpretation, transcription or localisation?

Yes. TTC offers interpretation, transcription and localisation in addition to written translation. These are separate services, so send the project details and intended use for a suitable quote. Video subtitling is also available for appropriate multilingual media projects.

Can I order a French translation online?

Yes. A clear electronic copy of the document can be sent for review and a free personalised quote. You can order from anywhere in Ireland without visiting the office simply to obtain a quote. The final delivery method depends on the service and the receiving organisation’s requirements.

How quickly can a French translation be completed?

It depends on the document. Same-day or 24-hour service may be available for suitable files after review, while longer or more complex legal, commercial, technical, medical or highly formatted documents can require additional time.
